Australia's No. 1 Sustainable Film Festival .....

Lights, camera, action ......

Mission Beach is celebrating all things community with the 2012 Mission Beach Film Festival at MARCS Park from November 2 to 4.

The third Mission Beach Film Festival draws on the creative energy of our community and others further afield.  It will be launched with a gala opening night party and screening with special guests and entertainment, delicious food from our local favourites and a few new ones to spoil us for choice.

The inspirational and hardworking crew of local volunteers are building on the success of the previous festivals and taken note of festival goers’ suggestions and feedback to ensure the 2012 festival is one not to miss.

The Cassowary Coast community and its visitors are invited to be entertained, provoked, and inspired by films on the big screen and to get behind the camera to explore the many communities that make the Cassowary Coast so unique.

We may have had the wind blown out of our sails last year but it has made us more resilient as a community and more appreciative of our natural environment.  The three-night program will showcase films that shine a light on how we live with the natural world and how the natural world responds to the people who live in it.  Community is the theme and sustainability is the message.

The popular Stills Exhibition and a Short Film Competition offer exciting opportunities for the whole community to get involved.

Animals live in communities, our rainforests are communities, a lump of coral is a community, a group of skateboarders is a community, the local ukulele club is a community. We want to know which community inspires you. Which community do you care about?

Tickets to the Film Festival are now available from Mission Beach Visitor Information Centre.   A weekend pass to the Film Festival costs $32 for adults and $12 for children; tickets to the gala opening night on November 2 are $25 for adults Rated M; admission to the family night movies on Sunday, November 4 cost $10 for adults and $5 for children. Saturday night offers a free screening of short films and documentaries, many of which feature local film makers and communities.
