What the World Could Be
The Mission Beach Film Festival presents a diverse program of films and sidebar
programs that present what our world could be if we change our expectations
and what the world could be if we don’t.
The inaugural Mission Beach Film Festival mounted in November 2009 attracted
over 1000 audience members to 14 screenings of feature length films and
documentaries, short film competition and stills photography exhibition that all
focused on sustainable living.
This year, the Mission Beach Film Festival will present a supplementary program
to enrich and extend our notion of what the world could be. Guest speakers
including filmmakers and world renowned experts on sustainable living will
engage with audiences wanting a deeper understanding of the opportunities
available to live more compatibly with the environment.
The festival is also planning to introduce a Farm Gate Market introducing local and regional growers and their product to the community. The Short Film Competition will broaden entries beyond the Cassowary Coast Regional shire area to the world. Filmmakers are invited to submit their entries on the general theme of sustainability and a series of student workshops will be conducted in local primary and secondary schools to give students the skills and opportunity to submit their own works.
The Stills Photography exhibition was a resounding success with over 100
images exhibited portraying not only glorious images of the local area, but the
wealth of expertise possessed by local photographers, amateur and rofessional
alike.
The film program will feature inspiring, entertaining and provocative films that are intended to encourage discussion, debate and delight. All will shine a light on the how we live with the natural world and how the natural world responds to the people who live in it.
